My first reaction to my diagnosis of relapsing MS was total fear. I worried about my future. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to do any of the activities I loved or take care of my children.
I felt better knowing that there were therapies available that could treat my relapsing MS, and my doctor and I decided Rebif® (interferon beta-1a) would be the right option for me. I was looking forward to starting on therapy but was devastated when I found out my insurance would cover only a fraction of the cost of relapsing multiple sclerosis treatment. It's a good thing I found out about MS LifeLines Access Made Simple. What a great program! Because I was under-insured, I was able to get Rebif for free. At a time when I was feeling so overwhelmed and upset, MS LifeLines® came through for me in a big way.
However, I knew the MS LifeLines Access Made Simple program would cover the cost of therapy for up to one year. After several months went by, I began to worry about what would happen when my year was up. But I didn't have to be concerned. Nine months into the program, MS LifeLines reached out to me and began researching other assistance programs. Sure enough, they came through for me again. When I had completed my year on MS LifeLines Access Made Simple, I was switched to a Patient Assistance Program from MS LifeLines, without any gap in coverage. Bottom line: because of my individual circumstance, I still receive Rebif for free.
If people are concerned about the cost of their relapsing MS treatment, they should look into their options. They might be surprised to learn that they may be eligible for aid. I definitely recommend calling MS LifeLines. Their Financial Support Team is there to help you find ways to pay for Rebif therapy. They certainly helped me!
